Geeky Resources |
||
Ok, this is the page where I get
to show my really geeky side (no I mean my REALLY GEEKY SIDE)!
Somewhat Respectable Geek ResourcesZD Net -- Part of the Ziff-Davis Publishing empire. They publish PC Magazine as well as others CMP Net -- A general information source for technical topics from the company that publishes Information Week and other publications. CNet.com -- Good source for up-to-date Technology News. Computer World -- Another good source for IT news. If you have to support users in your company, check out the Shark Tank on this site. Tech Republic -- This is another good site for more hard core IT news. The site does require a free membership sign-up to use. Developer Geek ResourcesBuilder.com -- Part of Tech Republic, Builder.com is an excellent site for general development information. Visual Studio Magazine -- It started out as Visual Basic Magazine many years ago, it is still the premier developer magazine for those who work with Microsoft's development product. Dot Net Magazine -- Another Fawcette Technical Publication covering Microsoft Development Technologies. Got Dot Net? -- An excellent source for code and programming examples for Microsoft's newest development technologies. VB2TheMax -- This is an old, but well loved resource for those of us who develop in VB6 and older. They also have some Dot Net code. Really Out There Geek ResourcesSlashdot.org -- You really haven't lived until you have spent some time on Slashdot. This is a mixture of alternative news source and discussion board. The site has an open-source (read Linux) bias, but it is still a thought provoking and interesting site. Free Software Foundation -- This is the home of Richard Stallman, one of the originators of the open source software movement. Linux Journal -- Home page of one of the major Linux news sources. Historical Geek LinksFor those of us who are old enough to remember the excitement over the original IBM PC (or even the Apple II), you may find the following links interesting. Oldest Software Contest -- David Strom, a columnist for Internet Week held a contest to find the oldest running software. While hardly a scientific study, the results are fun and interesting. Some stuff just never dies! ComputerHistory.org -- This site is dedicated to preserving information about the history of data processing. It shows photos and data from the early days of computing. The site has images and data from the now defunct The Computer Museum in Boston. DigiBarn.com -- This is an actual physical museum of computers in Northern California. Believe it or not, the collection is housed in a 19th century barn.
